Icarus died when he flew too close to the sun and his wings fell off. But that was only because he wanted to see how beautiful she really was up close....
Alas, what is all this sweet work worth if thou kiss not me?
What is nothing if not everything? What if everything has a meaning? What if nothing?
What if Einstein was right and we really are the only static thing in an otherwise dynamic and fluid universe? The observer.
Now i am become death the shatterer of worlds, Because you have given me the power to destroy life.
Soon. |

No. I cannot devolve.
There is no turning back. Your time has come. It is your time to live. Go. Now.
Go.
This is the time for you to exclaim, Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds. |

[May. 21st, 2006|02:16 pm] |
Dated Sunday the 21st of May, 2006
To Whom it May Concern,
The events of Friday 19 May have left me with the firm realisation that I cannot continue in my present role within the Company. While I accept Brent's apology and admission that your ploy was ill advised and unprofessional, I am at a loss to understand why you would conspire to put me in such a position. I have regularly demonstrated that I cant help but side with my coworkers when they are absent or unable to defend themselves or refute comments made against them. This is considered by many as an admirable trait.
Were this an isolated incident I might be able to look at it as such, however from my perspective this is unfortunately the latest in a series of events that continue to demoralise and demotivate me. Some examples include:
1. Active exclusion from the technical process. 2. Active exclusion from the recruitment process. 3. Active exclusion from the Columbia project despite knowing it to be one of the only reasons I remain at NSP. 4. Denying salary parity by paying my immediate peer 40% more than me to do the same job while demonstrating a lower success rate. 5. Failure to make any attempt to retain me. 6. Failure to address any of my greivances despite raising them on multiple occasions.
As a result of these events I will be taking a period of 1 week, starting on the 22nd of May, for emergency stress leave, while i consider my position, seek alternative employment arrangements and seek legal advice regarding an apparent constructive dismissal scenario.
During this time you may communicate with me using my tom@thoughtcrime.org.nz email address, to which I will respond at my discretion and convenience. I will not be available to answer cell phone calls from any employees or customers. You may contact me regarding network operations emergencies to which you may alert me via text message. I make no guarantees of availability or response time.
In the interest of maintaining your relationships you should refrain from getting customers to contact me during this time as if they ask I will share with them the events that have lead me to take this course of action, off the record of course.
I suggest we meet at 10am on the 28th of May to discuss how to proceed.
In the meantime, I suggest you consider the following very carefully.
Next to Stephen I am the longest employed staff member still remaining with the Company, having reached my 3rd anniversary last week. Through your actions you are demonstrating to the rest of the staff that this treatment is what they have to look forward to if they remain with the company over any length of time.
Over the past 18 months I have observed a staff turnover rate of greater than 100%, with several positions being refreshed multiple times within that period. This is unprecedented in our industry, approaching McDonalds level. This should be viewed as a danger sign that something is gravely wrong with the Company. Sadly, there has been no measurable shift in attitude, nor any discussion offered over events, nor has there been any significant restructuring of the affected positions.
You have adopted the dichotomy of encouraging comradeship but only when it serves the "business interest". You actively participate in and encourage the berating of former employees, frequently making the worst comments about them, elevating technical commentary on their previous work into personal attacks.
You demonstrate contempt for the open source values that you claim to support by asserting that you somehow had sole ownership of the Shadow Server technology that I brought to the company, despite full knowlege that all the components and documentation involved were subject to the terms of the GPL and GFDL respectively. Open Source works for NSP as long as it goes your way.
You regularly take full credit for work done entirely by your employees, including misattributing my words to Brent in an article published in the Wall Street Journal.
I reccomended and encouraged one of my closest friends to join the Company, for which I now feel deep regret. I am unable to reccomend to anybody that working for NSP is a good idea. If asked I have to tell people to stay as far away as possible.
I hope for your own sake and that of your employees that you consider the above points very seriously.
Yours sincerely
Thomas Hibbert. |

Sounds like this month is turning into a shitter for a lot of people. Today, my bosses played a petty, dirty trick on me and im still at a loss to understand why they did it.
One of the companys ex developers, who finished on friday, is disputing his final pay. This morning, my bosses and the sales team were talking about him in the middle of the office. They were seething at him, cursing him, and among the loving words my boss had to say for our ex developer (and my friend) were that he was an "arrogant immature asshole".
so i tracked him down on irc and shared those moments with him.
moments later boss2 comes over to my desk
to in form me: "you do realise everything you have just heard is subject to confidential privilege and must remain within this company?" my response "too late"
then boss1 hears about it, drags me into the boardroom to give me a shouting match. i cant remember exactly what he was saying because i had just tuned out. i know i kept my voice down, although i know i gave him the smackdown on quite a few of his points, i cant remember what all of it was about. what i do remember is the disbelief when he told me that he had done it on purpose, to test me, to see what i would do. it just dumbfounded me that he would do such a thing. I also remember ending it by stating that i probably wasnt the only one that messaged him to tell him what brent was saying, but that i was the only one that had the balls to admit it, to see what he would do.
Shortly after that meeting finished I packed my gear and left, telling the office admin on the way down im going home sick. They've left me two voicemails i havent bothered checking yet.
Tomorrow im going to talk my dad into getting me a couple of articles submitted to the herald. The first im going to do on small business hell, the second, salary disparity. Under a pseudonym and with the name of the companies involved changed, but the message will be clear.
And on monday I have to formally give them my intention to resign as soon as alternative employment can be found.
This just cant continue. |

A very interesting article at Wired sheds some light on the technical details of how the NSA hook into the world comms infrastructure.
They even have a scan of a spreadsheet that lists the AS numbers that were specifically tapped.
Its probably safe to assume at this point that there are far more taps in place. |

Hi again Sofia/Adam,
I'm looking forward to the 24h! After the standdown, I was expecting i would have to wait another month to get ink on my skin but 2 weeks isnt long at all!
Thanks very for making me a copy of the sketch! You did an amazing job with just my idea, and thats a rare talent! Of course i have millions more ideas for some refinements. I'm just going to go on a little here about some ideas I have looking at it, hope you dont mind.
We need to make our Kali look a little more modern. Boots. Knee high, stilletto combat or something. A knife or a pistol stowed in one of them would look cool too. She could actually be well presented as a fetish vixen in leather or vinyl = the dark skin in the classical renders of her. I like the skulls, but in the modern setting they may not only be of decorative value, how about a bandolier of skull grenades?
It's important to vary up the arm positions a little. Could we perhaps have her lower left hand actually point the gun at the dude on the ground? Perhaps the guns should be more overt and godly - a submachine gun with a bayonet perhaps? http://www.motionpicturearmourer.com/brent.htm gives some good outlines to work with. Perhaps we could get away with one gun and something else on the other side?
I like the face, but for the final render, could it be made to look like a mask, sinister and with someone beneath it? think V for Vendetta, war mask of ghenghis khan, etc.
I like the snake, he definately stays, how about a laser/death ray firing out of his eyes, or fangs dripping venom?
This could all be completely out of the question, just let me think how doable these are and if i am being unrealistic, but as this is going on my skin i would obviously like for it to be as perfect as possible.
Peace and thanks in advance,
Tom |

Studies have proven that females don't always go for the hottest mate, on the basis that the studlier fathers are too busy mating to take care of their kids properly, while the more homlier ones do better as fathers and raise better children who then have a better chance of mating and so on.
Simple observation shows that in humans, beauty does not equal better: in many cases getting involved with the most attractive women is ill advised, as not only do they usually project average or below average intellect, they very often posess no or only limited conscience, and are able to use and dispose of the people that enter their life without even being able to comprehend what it was that they are doing to harm the other party in the process.
This is a learned response. |

"Here's how it works, The president makes decisions, he's the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Put them through a spell-check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you've got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know, fiction." -- Stephen Colbert, addressing the White House Correspondents dinner. |

last night I got to enjoy the Tanuki Cave and see V for Vendetta courtesy of my old pal disturbed_kiwi. Thanks again man.
V for Vendetta is pretty damn spectacular. I love the vision of the Wachowskis setting V in the near future, complete with continuity after the War for Oil, nice touch guys. James Mcteague did a stunning job as director. No wonder the Wachowskis deferred to him as director. He is obviously far superior.
I was totally mesmerised by V's performance and completely forgot who was playing him until I looked it up afterwards. Hugo Weaving. Hell yeah.
To begin with I was underwhelmed by Natalie Portman's portrayal of Evie, but she redeemed herself after the torture scenes. But seeing her get her head shaved reminded me of the video of her from Saturday Night Live. If anyone doesn't know what i'm talking about, it's a must see. I wont spoil it for anyone else.
after I got dropped home by Aaron, I remembered to watch Colbert at the White House Correspondents dinner. If you havent heard about it, this is what happened: They invited a talk show host to close the dinner with a comedy act, and he took the golden opportunity to lampoon the guy to his face, on national TV. Priceless. |

I kept going towards my place and happened to run into my old friend Sera from school. She is doing her pH.D on something to the effect of "A Socialist criticism of capitalist society". !?
She is totally not the kind of person i would have picked to wind up doing this. Needless to say i'm now extremely curious, not only to see her paper but also to see what's happened in her mind. Of course I didn't get her number, thihnking I'd just look her up online, but alas i cant find anything. Oh well. Above all I am glad that she has turned out this way. This is exactly what the world needs right now. More people questioning. |

[Apr. 22nd, 2006|08:23 am] |
so i just got back from bugz in the attic. weird gig. ran into evilgrin and drank some little creatures. Danced a bit. Went outside and talked to some trashed people. Among them, a girl who really inspired the beast inside to rise up. Got dragged to a different club. Some really fucking dirty shit going down there, whatever it was. Took a cab back to her place with a whole bunch of other peeps. The guys tried to throw me two, three times but the girls brought me back into the fold. (ha) Laxed out, smoked weed, did nitrous, talked shit with a bunch of random people. Good end to a night.
Didnt get her number, but she lives down the road from me and said it was okay if i drop by sometime.
Not really my type as the more i talked to her the more apparent what a ditz she was.
Even so, there was something in her that inspired me to write... |
